Amoxicillin – an effective antibiotic September 7th, 2010

Amoxicillin is a synthetic kind of medication which represents by itself an improved Penicillin. One of Amoxicillin’s advantages is a better resistance to stomach acid and as a result, less dose of the medication is wasted.

The drug has a wider spectrum again different types of bacteria. Most helpful Amoxicillin is in fighting anaerobic infections (wounds caused by an infected bite, infected teeth, bladder infections and upper respiratory infections).

When the organism in a serious infection cannot be isolated, a common strategy is to attempt to “cover” for all possible bacteria. Amoxicillin is frequently used in combination with other antibiotics for this purpose.

Clavulanic acid may be added to amoxicillin to increase amoxicillin’s spectrum against Staphylococcal bacteria.

During Amoxicillin administration some individuals may experience the following side effects: nausea, diarrhea, headache, pain in stomach, weakness. It is recommended to take the medication together or after food.

The oral suspension should be refrigerated, though if it is mistakenly left out of the refrigerator for one day, this is not a problem. The oral suspension should be discarded after 2 weeks.
