Generics refer to the drugs that are being sold in the market without brand name or registered trademark. At the start people are reluctant to buy and take the generic medicines thinking that these drugs were substandard and are not as effective as the branded ones. But as years go by, customers have come to realized that they get the same quality as the branded type at a much lower price. People must understand that generic drugs have the equivalent formulation as the branded ones. In the Generics Act, it is stipulated that when the innovated drugs patent expires, any manufacturer or drug company can formulate its own generic brand. With this produced generic drugs, they are being sold at a much cheaper price. Since then, this implementation had been very helpful for poor patients with chronic disease that require long term medication yet high affordable and quality medicines. And nowadays, pharmacy stores offer the list of the generic equivalents.
