The rise in popularity of inkjet printers has been due to the fact that the manufacturers have been offering their entry level and some mid range printers at cost price. The reasoning behing this is to sell as many printers as possible and make people think they are getting a bargin. This seems great until you have to buy a set of replacement printer ink cartridges and you find that they cost more than the printer. This is a result of selling a printer as cost price, you have to make the money back in some other way and in the case of printers it’s the ink cartridges. This is common practice throughout the range of printer manufactures including HP ink cartridges, Epson, Brother amd Lexmark. This leaves a lot of people feeling slightly ripped off and mislead into thinking they could afford the printer because it was cheap to buy, but they finding that they can’t afford to run it. The only alterative to paying high prices is to switch to compatible ink, which is no bad thing. Comaptible inks can save up to 80% over the cost of genuine OEM cartridges and as long as they are bought from a repuatable supplier produce excellent print results. Saving vary depending on what type of cartridges your printer uses, fixed printhead printers such as Epson and some Canon offer the biggest savings but all offer considerable saving over the genuine branded inks.
